Installing Velocity

📌 According to Google's new procedure: September 9th, 2024 - Google will be upgrading their Chrome extension platform from version 2 to version 3.

  • This is a significant update that will impact all Chrome extensions, including Velocity.

During this transition, Velocity will be temporarily unavailable in the Chrome Extension Store. If you already have Velocity installed or need to install it, follow the steps below to continue using Velocity without interruption.

⭕ If you already have Velocity installed

You may see a warning message that says it may soon be unsupported.

Here's what to do ⬇️

  • To keep using Velocity, please follow these simple steps:

1. Open Google Chrome’s Extension Management: click on the Puzzle button located on the top right of the screen.

2. Look for the message "These extensions may soon no longer be supported." > Then click on the three dots next to it and select "Keep for now"

⭕ If you haven’t downloaded Velocity yet

Here's what to do ⬇️

  • You can do so by following these steps:

Step 1: Download Velocity

  • Click 👉 this link 👈 or copy and paste it into your Chrome browser to download Velocity.

  • The file will be downloaded as a zip file to your computer.

Step 2: Extract the Zip File

  1. Once the zip file is downloaded, locate the file in your downloads folder.

  2. Right-click on the zip file and choose Extract all.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the contents of the file.

Step 3: Open Chrome Extension Page

  1. Open your Chrome browser.

  2. Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar to navigate to the Extension Management page.

Step 4: Activate Developer Mode

  1. Look for the “Developer Mode” option at the top right corner of the Extension management page.

  2. Toggle it on to activate this mode.

Step 5: Load Unpacked Extension

  1. Locate the “Load unpacked” option, usually presented as a button or an icon at the top left corner of the Extension management page.

  2. Click on it to initiate the process of adding your extension.

Step 6: Choose Extension Folder

  1. Upon clicking “Load unpacked”, a file explorer window will appear.

  2. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted content of the zip file from Step 2

  3. Double-click on the "Velocity" folder to open the "public" folder

    • 📝 Note: No need to double-click on the "public" folder

  4. Click on the "public" folder

  5. Click on "Select folder"

Step 7: Confirm and Install

  1. Chrome will process the selected folder and install the extension in Developer Mode.

  2. You will see the extension added to your list of installed extensions upon successful installation.

🤔 FAQs

Q1: Why do I see a pop-up "Failed to load extension" when trying to load Velocity package, and what should I do?

  • Answer: This pop-up appears when the wrong folder is selected. Ensure you’ve chosen the "public" folder within the "Velocity" folder.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue ⬇️

  1. Click "Cancel."

  2. Click the "Load unpacked" button again.

  3. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the zip file.

  4. Double-click on the "Velocity" folder.

  5. Select the "public" folder (no need to double-click on it).

  6. Click "Select folder."

Q2: I see an "Errors" button after downloading Velocity. What should I do?

  • Answer: There's no need to worry about the "Errors" button. This is a notification from Google indicating that the Chrome Manifest version is v2 instead of v3.
